WHY A MEMBERSHIP — AND WHY NOW
For nearly three decades, Epic Ultras has been built on one simple philosophy:
Small caps. High standards. Deep community.
Our events have always filled quickly because runners know what to expect:

But opening registration the “old way” created a problem:
Someone always got left out — loyal returning runners, new runners who finally found us, or people who simply couldn’t sit at their computer at the exact second a race opened.
That never felt fair.
So after looking at every possible system — and talking through logistics, tradition, and culture — we landed on the one approach that keeps things organized, respectful, and transparent:

A membership gives committed runners first access to our races — without chaos, lotteries, or mad scrambles for slots.
It protects the tribe.
It protects the race experience.
It keeps things sane and fair.
There are 250 memberships.
When they’re taken, they’re taken.
WHY 250?
Epic Ultras has never been about big crowds. It’s about doing things right.
Typical caps:

Those caps existed to preserve:

runner experience

safety

community
We have no intention of turning Epic Ultras into oversized, anonymous events.
So:
250 memberships is large enough to be fair — and small enough to preserve the culture.
Once all memberships are filled, any future openings go to the waiting list.
HOW PRIORITY WORKS
1️⃣ This Year’s Runners
Runners get first opportunity to return to the same race the following year.
2️⃣ Epic Ultras Members (the 250)
Members receive a private, members-only 7-day registration window for all Epic Ultras races.
Your timestamp determines when your invitation goes out during that window.
3️⃣ SMS & EMail Lists
If any slots remain after the member window, they are offered to our SMS & Email lists.
4️⃣ General Public
Only if anything is still left.
Membership doesn’t guarantee entry into every race — but it ensures you always get the first and best opportunity.

When we evaluated the structure with accounting and legal, the recommendation was simple:
We could easily price this at $200–$300.
For the founding year, we aren’t doing that.
Membership: $100
No tricks.
