Since 1995 Epic Ultras has built one of the most loyal and hardcore tribes in the ultrarunning world. Between 1995 and 2015 alone, we built a database of nearly 3,000 runners who either ran one of our races or signed up to be part of our movement.

We looked at the demand.
We looked at the numbers.
We looked at the history.
Our races built their legacy on:

Remember how several of our Kansas races sold out?

So after going through every scenario, and yes, including with our legal and accounting team, we decided on the only fair solution that protects the culture for BOTH the old guard and the new blood:

WHY 250?
Because Epic Ultras has always been built on small, tight, high-quality caps:
• Cowtown Series caps at 125
• Race Across Kansas caps at 50
• Prairie Spirit capped at 200 and sold out 6 months in advance — three years straight
• FlatRock capped at 200 and sold out 11 months in advance — three years straight
It is unlikely we will ever host a Kansas ultra over 250 runners.
It destroys quality and culture, and everyone who’s run our races knows it.
So 250 memberships is:
Big enough to be fair.
Small enough to stay tribal.
Balanced enough to preserve the culture.
Scarce enough to create explosive demand.
Once it fills, that’s it.
